About Kenny Keith
Kenny is the son of a Wesleyan Pastor. He comes from a musical family. His mother played piano and sang alto. His sisters all sing and harmonize. Kenny’s Dad was a great vocalist who used his voice for God in the church. His Dad was a singer with some big bands in the forties.
Kenny began writing songs at 10 years old. At 14 he bought a used Stella acoustic guitar for $7.00. He bought a guitar chord book and began to learn how to play the guitar. As a teenager he began writing Gospel songs and sang in church. After high school Kenny joined the USMC and served four years with an honorable discharge.
Kenny had powerful experiences with the Lord as a youth and lived in a family committed to spreading the Gospel. His father was a great influence on him and Kenny calls his dad his hero.
In 1969 he signed a song writing and recording contract with Double Talk records in Nashville, TN. In 1970 he recorded a single entitled “Make me a Country Writer”. Although it got good reviews it didn’t really go anywhere. In 1977 Kenny had a profound experience with God. His life radically changed. He began living his life enthusiastically for the Lord.
He began to write new Gospel songs and began singing in churches and leading Praise and Worship. In 1980 he formed a group called Reunion. They were together five years. They signed a promotion contract with Wind Chime Records in Nashville, Tn and released a single entitled “Revival Fire”. It did very well for them and they were able to share the music in many different venues.
After that Kenny found himself leading a Teen Youth group for 4 years and after that he planted and pastored three small churches. Even though God was using him he felt he was still missing what he should be doing. He was still writing and recording songs in his own recording studio but wasn’t convinced this was where he should be.
